2. Certification - the list of certification choices is vast! Some popular certification organizations are: ACE , ACSM, and NFPT.
If you don't know where you'll work, take some time to research the web sites of major organizations and where their certification is recognized. No point in getting certified if the gym you will work at only recognizes a certain type of certification.
3. Area of expertise - You can target a certain group of clients by specializing. Taking additional certification in your area of interest will show your prospective clients you have the knowledge needed. It is also an effective marketing tool to have additional certification besides the basics.
4. Work for a gym or your own Business? - This may be your first major decision. If you have little or no experience then working for a gym or club is a good way to get that experience. For more info, see Guide to Become a Personal Fitness Trainer .
5. Continuing Education - Once you have your certification it doesn't end there. You will need to continue your education throughout the span of your career. You will need a CPR and first aid certificate and keep your knowledge current buy attending seminars and further education courses.
6. What you can do with your experience - Once you are certified and have experience then the world is your oyster. You may want to branch into management, teaching or lecturing, writing or any other industry related job. There's a lot to choose from.
